While I have many other things that are far more entertaining and have happened before this one, I decided to write about what is freshest in my memory: my first allergic reaction.
A couple of weeks ago, I got a bump on my face. It felt like any other pimple but this one just did NOT want to budge. So, I left it alone, packed for the Fall Retreat at Pine Brook Camp, and headed for a good time. As the weekend went on, it this bump just kept getting bigger. I'm talkin' HUGE. This is not a zit, this is a cyst or a boil or something gross. On my face. PERRRRRRRFECT.
Sunday night comes and my dad has made me promise to notify him when I plan to pop it because he, "doesn't want to miss when this thing blows." Then it pops. It was gross but definitely not as gross as some of those nasty videos on youtube. I had the next day off of work (score!) so I decided to get up early (boo!) and go to the doctor's office for an early morning sick visit. After waiting in a HUGE line, she hooked me up with an antibiotic and I was on my way.
By the next day, my diagnosed "abscess" was virtually undetectable. I was feelin' good. Well, until Wednesday at least.
I shaved my legs Tuesday night & woke up with little red spots on my legs on Wednesday. I brushed them off as razor burn, fine. That's normal. During Legit the back of my arms start to itch & when I get home, I notice that I have like a dozen raised mosquito bite-lookin' things on the back of each arm.
I freak out. My mom has been OBSESSED with the "bed bug madness" that has been taking the country by storm and has threatened me repeatedly about bringing bed bugs into the house. I thought to myself, "oh my gosh. I have bed bugs." So I change my sheets, shut my mouth, and go to bed.
6 am, Thursday. I wake up itchy. You have to be pretty itchy for it to wake you up. A gaze in my full length mirror revealed these "bites" covering my arms, legs, and neck. Perfect. Since I still live at home and I'm still a baby, I woke my mom up, whining about how much it itches. She tells me to have a nurse at work look at it.
Lisa, the nurse, reacts with "OH MY GOSH! You're allergic to something." By noon I'm running a fever and looking NASTY. The rash is spreading so I go home, call the doctor, and try to get warm.
I looked like this:
The doctor tells me to take Benadryl. Thanks, I've been doing that. I'm glad that I'm paying all this money to see you, doc.
By Friday morning, I am more red than I am white. Literally ALL of my, even under my eyes is red, bumpy, and itchy. Double doses of Benadryl.
As of now, I'm more or less back to normal. Slightly itchy but normal. I'm glad that's over.
How about this: no more Sulfa drugs, no more allergic reactions. Kthanksbye.
